Aura
This semester-long project challenged our class to investigate unique opportunities in world of unlimited bandwidth ubiquitous computing. Our multidisciplinary team focused on how such an environment could enhance family connections beyond sharing photos, videos or messages. Through exploratory research, generative design, iterative prototypes, and product testing, our group designed the Aura network.
The Aura network provides family members a continuous sense of awareness and inclusion in their daily lives by displaying the activity levels of each family member. Each member's portal responds to changes in environmental noise and light, and the members change in location. Harnessing the sensing capability of standard cell phones, Aura affords a feeling of connectedness that is both powerful and non invasive.
